Frequently Asked Questions
About Emergency Dental Care

What counts as a dental emergency?

A dental emergency includes severe pain, swelling, bleeding, infection, trauma, broken teeth, knocked-out teeth, or damage to crowns, fillings, or dentures.

Should I go to the ER or an emergency dentist?

For most tooth-related issues, you should see an emergency dentist. If you have severe facial swelling, difficulty breathing, uncontrolled bleeding, or serious trauma, go to the nearest emergency room.

How quickly can I get an appointment?

Emergency appointments available during clinic hours

Do you accept walk-ins?

We do our best to accommodate walk-in emergency patients, but calling ahead is recommended.

What if I do not have dental insurance?

We can discuss payment options and financing solutions for eligible patients.

Can you help on weekends?

Yes. Saturday appointments may be available for emergency dental care.

What should I do if my tooth gets knocked out?

Keep the tooth moist, avoid touching the root, and see a dentist immediately. Quick treatment can improve the chance of saving the tooth.

Can you help with swelling or infection?

Yes. Swelling, abscesses, and infections should be treated quickly to prevent the problem from spreading.

How much does emergency dental care cost?

The cost depends on the treatment needed. We will explain your options clearly before treatment begins.

Can anxious patients get sedation?

Yes. We offer sedation for emergency dental treatment for eligible patients who feel nervous or anxious.

Can you repair a broken tooth the same day?

In many cases, yes. Depending on the damage, we may be able to repair the tooth the same day.

Do you accept CDCP patients?

Yes. Eligible CDCP patients are welcome.

Can a severe toothache go away on its own?

The pain may come and go, but the underlying problem often remains. It is important to have the tooth examined.

What should I do if my crown falls off?

Keep the crown safe, avoid chewing on that side, and call our office as soon as possible.

Can you help with broken dentures?

Yes. We provide denture repairs and can recommend replacement options if needed.

COMMON
EMERGENCY DENTAL PROBLEMS
WE TREAT

Severe Toothache

A severe toothache can make it difficult to eat, sleep, work, or focus. Tooth pain may be caused by decay, infection, a cracked tooth, gum disease, or an abscess.

Fast treatment can help relieve pain and prevent the problem from becoming more serious. We may recommend a filling, root canal, extraction, or other treatment depending on the cause.

Broken or Chipped Tooth

A broken tooth can cause pain, sensitivity, sharp edges, or cosmetic concerns. Even a small crack can become worse if left untreated.

Our emergency dental clinic in Mississauga can repair broken teeth using bonding, fillings, crowns, veneers, or other treatment options.

Knocked-Out Teeth

A knocked-out tooth is one of the most urgent dental emergencies. In some cases, the tooth can be saved if you act quickly and see a dentist within 30 to 60 minutes.

We provide urgent care for knocked-out teeth and sports-related dental injuries.

Lost Filling or Crown

A lost filling or crown can leave your tooth exposed, sensitive, and vulnerable to damage.

We can replace or repair lost restorations quickly to help protect the tooth and reduce discomfort.

Swollen Gums Or Abscess

Swelling in the gums, face, or jaw can be a sign of infection. A dental abscess can become serious if not treated promptly.

If you have swelling, pus, fever, or pain when chewing, contact our office immediately for urgent treatment.

Root Canal Pain

Severe pain, sensitivity, or swelling around a tooth may indicate an infected nerve. A root canal emergency dentist can help relieve pain and save the tooth whenever possible.

Wisdom Teeth Pain

Wisdom teeth can cause swelling, pain, pressure, jaw stiffness, and infection.

We can assess whether the tooth should be treated, monitored, or removed.

Broken Dentures

Broken dentures can make it difficult to eat, speak, or smile comfortably.

We provide denture repairs and solutions to help restore function as quickly as possible.

Jaw Pain or TMJ Emergency

Jaw pain, difficulty opening your mouth, clicking, or injury after an accident may require urgent dental attention.

We can assess the jaw joint, teeth, and surrounding structures to determine the cause.

Bleeding Gums or Injury

Heavy bleeding after an injury or dental trauma should not be ignored.

We can examine the gums, teeth, and soft tissues to stop bleeding and prevent infection.

Sports Injuries To teeth

Sports injuries can cause chipped teeth, knocked-out teeth, jaw pain, and bleeding.

Prompt treatment can often help save damaged teeth and reduce long-term complications.

Dental Infections

Dental infections can spread quickly and may cause swelling, pain, fever, bad taste, or trouble swallowing.

If you suspect an infection, call immediately for urgent care.
